Praying for Mardi Gras

Praying for Mardi Gras

We walked out after the sold-out showing of Parasite at the Crescent Theater and heard a jazz band playing in Cathedral Square. A group circled in the center of the square listened to the man in the middle. After they finished, they broke apart dancing, laughing, and talking with each other. I asked a lady in a matching flower hat and raincoat what was happening.

"We are in Mobile making prophetic prayers against the immorality of Mardi Gras and for the Spirit to be stirred here."

I didn’t understand what she meant, but a sign on a car parked close by advertised a prophetic artist. I looked him up and this was part of his prayer posted on Sunday, February 16.

"Heavenly Father at 3:00pm today we are worshipping at Cathedral Square in Mobile, AL the City where Mardi Gras actually began
Join us as we worship at 3:00 from here ever You are, magnifying the True King, Yeshua Hamashiach!
At 6:30pm the Parades of the perverted begins, with the daughters Daughters of Neptune
Opening the week of the demonic procession.
Father, there are thousands on the Gulf Coast this weekend who have no clue of what they are really subjecting themselves too; Drinking sewer water from a satanic cesspool!
You tell us to Confess our sins one to another, and pray one for another, that we may be healed, today we stand the gap for the sins of these lost, wanderers who have drifted far from Your intended destiny for them.
In Mercy cause multitudes to have a Damascus Road experience, smack dab in the middle of the parade route."

I didn't grow up with Mardi Gras and I haven't been to a ball in years, but I spend a lot of time in the hours before the parades taking pictures, doing interviews. and playing with people. There is joy, silliness, and openness wrapped in music, beads, and king cake that crosses all lines and pulls us together. People may be protective of the stuffed animals they catch, but they share food off the grill and Moon Pies. Police officers on overtime hours dance to the marching bands, ride stick horses, and play with kids. Families wear matching shirts stick to traditions about where they stand and the dance of the first catch. Mobilians living across the country return home to the celebration of their roots one more time.

As much as I want to fight back for the clueless thousands of us who are drinking sewer water from a satanic cesspool and participating in the parades of the perverted, I am proud they were safe to stand unharassed in the heart of the birthplace of Mardi Gras and pray what they believe.

I wish I could have told them that maybe they wouldn't find multitudes having the Damascus Road experience, but they would see streets filled with love and kindness. People laughing, dancing, and getting to know the strangers around them.

God can be at Mardi Gras, too. Smack dab in the middle of the parade route.
